After a thirty-year musical hiatus, Eddie Shaw, bass player and co-founding member of the rock group The Monks journeys back to his jazz roots on Jass in Six Pieces, picking up the trumpet that started his musical career at the tender age of fifteen.
Minnesoda / Copperhead, 1970s
In the late 1960s and early 1970s, the Twin Cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul) had one of the most active music scenes in the USA. Copperhead (changed to Minnesoda by Capitol Records) worked the local club week six nights a week, including being the house band at The Depot (later known as First Avenue, model or the club in Prince’s movie, “Purple Rain”). The group’s radical musical approach had an underlying influence of jazz music mixed with progressive rock and funk, with unique and philosophical songwriting. This recording is a compilation of songs they wrote, recorded and never released.
